Forgot to post this mandala that I did back in January.

I had actually started it a couple of years ago and only got this far.

I did this one a couple of years ago based on the same design. Both of these mandalas were in spired by this u-tube video by Peter Draws.

Mandalas

On pinterest I have been seeing a lot of Mandalas done by Lisa Chang. Love her work. This is inspired by her.

To get the shape I folded a piece of paper in half and kept cutting until I got the size and shape I wanted. Then I traced it onto my paper.

Before I drew the paradox tangle I drew it going different going different directions to see what way I wanted it.

Then I added water colors to it.

My sister Marie and I have a tendency to start working on something that the other one is doing. Back in December she started working on Mandalas again so I had to too.

This one I did in December after seeing it on Pinterest.

I had starter this one quite some time ago, like a year or more.

Finally I finished it this month.

Another Mandala

Here is my latest Mandala.

In the past I have always done my mandalas by starting with my homemade templates  and a compass to make the grid. This is time consuming. So I decided to make the grid on my computer. I can print that grid out on what ever type of paper I want. The above mandala is on 140lb hotpress watercolor paper. 

In the above picture you can see the grid lines that were printed closeup. So I am printing it with even fainter lines. 

Here is my next Mandala that I have started.

After I get all the line work done and colored in, I think the faint printed lines you won't be able to see.

2 new Mandalas

Finally finished 2 mandalas I've been working on for a while.

 This was done on sketch paper with microns and pitt pens.

I then cut out around it and mounted on black card stock.

This was done on coldpress watercolor paper with pitt pens and watercolors. 

The background is painted with black acrylic paint.

My Mandala Journal Flip Thru.

Seed of Life

A couple of weeks ago I did these two mandalas.I used my guides to create the sections for the circles.

This one I used my brand new Twinkling H2O's

This one I was inspired from  here. I used colored pencils on 140 lb watercolor paper.

A couple of days ago I came across a great website: Guada's Circle she offers a free class on creating a mandala. This method of creating a Seed of Life mandala is a lot easier than using the guides that I came up with. Seeing how she colors hers is very inspiring.

Creating Star Shaped Mandalas

For a couple of years I have been making mandalas in my art journals. When I first started I wanted to have stars in them. I used a protractor and compass to get my points evenly spaced out. It was very time consuming using the protractor  and I thought to myself there had to be an easier way. Here is what I came up with. My architect husband using his drafting software, very easily made some different sided shapes for me and I printed them out. Now I use these reusable guides, a compass and straight edge.

I first tape down the guide on to the page using temporary tape.
Then put the pointy end of the compass in the middle of the guide and draw a couple of circles.

Then I create the sections by lining up the straight edge on the lines of the guide and use a pencil and make a mark on each circle. (Draw the whole line if you think you might use it in your finished design.)

Then line up your straight edge from the marks on each circle.

Using the marks I didn't use on the first star, I created a second star behind the first one.

For me using this method takes minutes instead of an hour in starting up of my stars.

If you want to try this method, right click these images then paste into a word document. In a word document you can easily re-size the images to what you want. My guides are about 2 inches.
