Tags Week 1

I decided to follow the prompts for the 2017 ICAD challenge but using tags because I have so many of them. Here are my tags for June 1 -7.

And this is how I am displaying them. Hanging from the lamp beside my art desk on a ring.

Painted page in my Planner

Here is a painted page that I did in my planner. Went by this video by Shannon Green and this one.

These are the brushes I already had. (Yes Marie some of these use to be yours).

Did go shopping to try and find more to use. Left pack is from Michael's, middle from Hobby Lobby and right is from JoAnn's. I plan to get more of the one from JoAnn's.

Here are the colors I used first.

And came up with this mess!

In the video Shannon finishes up with a yellow happy color. I had first planned to use the Basics primary yellow but went with a happier color, Dairylide Yellow.

And came up with this.

Here it is after the first stencil using white paint.

And then after the second stencil with black paint. In the past I have always used makeup sponges to apply paint using stencils. Love Love using these stipple brushes so much more. It goes so much faster!

And then after the doodling.

Journal for No Reason Flip Thru.

Here is a short video of my first Journal for No Reason put together. It isn't completely done. On the pages that don't have much color on them I will collage some deli paper wipe offs. Also will reinforce the spine more and do something with the cover.

I love this journal. Mainly because of the years I have been using the papers as wipe off papers. So many memories. But in all honesty I would not intentionally set out to make such busyness.

Putting the Journal for no reason together.

Time to put the Journal together. First I laid out all the pages in order that I wanted them in. Decided it would have 5 signatures with 4 or 5 folios in them.

Next I sewed the smaller pieces to the larger pages.

For the cover I decided to use brown craft paper.

I stacked each signature like I wanted then sewed them on to the craft paper cover.

After sewing all 5 signatures in, I was concerned that the spine wasn't strong enough. So I glued some reinforcements to the spine. I will probably do more to reinforce it.

See the next post for a flip thru of the journal.

Journals for no Reason

I came across this u-tube video Journals for no Reason. I am so inspired and excited. I have so many book papers, music sheets and deli papers that I have wiped off extra paint onto. Looking forward to making my own Journals for no Reason.

For my 1st Journal for no reason I've decided to use the papers that I had been using for years underneath my projects and/or in between pages of my journals to protect other pages. Here is a short video of them.

I also decided to use the paper from my spray booth.

Went ahead a put a new paper in the spray booth.

Here is a video showing the papers after I cut them to size.

Found a few more things to add.

On some of the pages I added more paint.

Now to decide how to put this together. Will post a video showing the final product when I am finished. Thanks for looking!

Painting Parties Supply List.

Here is a list of supplies to bring if you are coming to my house to do one of the Painting Parties Projects.

Whatever you want to paint on or in. In the videos they paint on 16 x 20 inch canvases. I am painting in my 10 x 12 art journal with watercolor paper. Marie is using mixed media paper. If you do paint on paper, I suggest it's prepped first with gesso. The gesso will keep  the paint from being absorbed into the paper fast and then dry.

Paint brushes. Here is a very inexpensive set that I got at Hobby Lobby in the children's craft area.

Acrylic paint. For this type of painting I like inexpensive fluid paint. You can bring what you have or use this that I have.

Optional: Paint palettes. I have styrofoam plates you can use, but personally I like to use something bigger and flatter.

Optional: Paint spatula for mixing. In the videos they just use their brush to pick up paint and mix. Me I like using a spatula.

Apron and wear clothes that you don't mind getting paint on.

Mandalas

Forgot to post this mandala that I did back in January.

I had actually started it a couple of years ago and only got this far.

I did this one a couple of years ago based on the same design. Both of these mandalas were in spired by this u-tube video by Peter Draws

Painting Parties

Marie and I have been asking a few ladies if they wanted to come paint with us. We plan to do some of the projects from the Painting Parties website. Last Saturday our friends Yvonne and Carolyn joined us.

And here is the painting I did.

It was fun having others join us. Hope to have a couple more ladies join us in the future.

Thanks for looking.

PAINTING PARTIES

I came across a website for having Painting Parties in your own home. There are several places around town that host painting parties, but I think it is kind of pricey. I also want to paint in my art journal instead of canvases. My sister Marie and I are always getting together to do art projects. We think it would be fun to get together with a few others doing artsy stuff. This past weekend Marie and I got together and painted 2 of the designs.

Marie is working in her 11x14 Canson mixed media journal.

I'm working in my homemade midori style journal. It has hot pressed water color paper in it.

Here is the 2 that Marie did.

And here are mine. I still have some detail work to do on the wine one.

We used Liquitex Basic Acrylics. It was way to thick for this style of painting. Next painting of this type I plan to use a craft type paint that is much more fluid.

Mandalas

On pinterest I have been seeing a lot of Mandalas done by Lisa Chang. Love her work. This is inspired by her.

To get the shape I folded a piece of paper in half and kept cutting until I got the size and shape I wanted. Then I traced it onto my paper.

Before I drew the paradox tangle I drew it going different going different directions to see what way I wanted it.

Then I added water colors to it.

Mandalas

My sister Marie and I have a tendency to start working on something that the other one is doing. Back in December she started working on Mandalas again so I had to too.

This one I did in December after seeing it on Pinterest.

I had starter this one quite some time ago, like a year or more.

Finally I finished it this month.

And another one.
